Linda Hammann, 71, of Port St. Lucie, FL, passed away on November 2, 2022, surrounded by her family. She will be missed by her husband of 49 years, Bill; her daughter Kim, son-in-law Tony, and grandson Maddox of RI; her son Chris of FL; and countless family and friends.
Linda was born on August 24th, 1951, in Jersey City, NJ, to Sarah and Lawrence Cappelluti. She married in 1973 and graduated from St. Peter’s College that same year with an education degree. She went on to dedicate the rest of her life to enriching generations of young people as a teacher, school administrator, mother, and grandmother.
For most of her career, “Mrs. Hammann” was a pillar in the Camp Auxilium community in Newton, NJ. What began as a part-time volunteer gig turned into a calling that spanned over three decades. As the office’s gatekeeper, her watchful eye was always attuned to the needs of others. Whether it was an overwhelmed child, a family down on their luck, or a colleague looking for advice, Linda opened her heart. She grieved your losses, celebrated your successes, and never lost faith in you.
She found comfort in her religion and always had a Bible verse at the ready. But above all, she loved her family and her desire to see her grandson again was one of the things that gave her the strength to endure multiple health issues in the last months of her life. She leaves behind a collection of Italian recipes (which will be of questionable quality in the years to come since she refused to write down any of the instructions, ingredients, or measurements) and enough Christmas decorations to outfit Santa’s village three times over.
